6 Reasons Why You
Should Switch to H-Seals
100% Manufacturing Yield with H-Seals
H-Seals deliver an Ultra-High-Vacuum seal 100% of the time. Guaranteed, or well replace the H-Seal at no cost. This is as opposed to traditional metal O-Rings that often deliver manufacturing yields of less than 50%. Traditional metal O-Rings are fragile and difficult to handle the clean-room. Even minor surface scratches may cause significant leaks resulting in low assembly yields and high rework costs. |
Alignment Retainers Not Required
H-Seals are self aligning, which saves the cost of retainers that are required with traditional metal O-Rings. Assembly is simplified and costs are reduced. |
No Gland Damage with H-Seals
With H-Seals, the soft nickel seal is sacrificed; not the gland. H-Glands can generally be reused for 15+ cycles with no loss of sealing capacity.
Metal O-Ring glands, on the other hand, must often be re-polished or re-machinged every time the part is disassembled because the metal O-Ring deforms or damages the gland. |
Lower Compressive Force with H-Seals
H-Seals generally require only 20-50% of the compressive force required for metal O-Rings allowing smaller and fewer fasteners. Space, time and money are saved. |
Seal Integrity Increases with Compression
With H-Seals, the tooth remains sharp throughout the entire penetration process, so the more force applied, the stronger the seal becomes. The H-Seal itself acts as a positive stop so there is no risk of over-tightening.
On the other hand, when metal O-Rings are compressed, they flatten, which increases the surface contact with the gland, which, in turn, reduces the force imposed per unit area. Consequently, as metal O-Rings are tightened, their ability to seal diminishes. |
Delicate, Highly Polished Surfaces Not Required
H-Seals achieve a leak tight seal by conforming a soft Nickel gasket, and minor machining irregularities are absorbed by the H-Seal. Lapping and polishing steps are eliminated and manufacturing costs are drastically reduced with H-Seals.
In contrast, metal O-Rings demand highly polished surfaces finishes on both gland faces and on the O-Ring itself. Even minor scratches or imperfections may cause leaks. Consequently machining and handling costs are high. |
